“Lights-On” Leadership

Are you making the impact you want?

Lights-On Leadership takes this question to heart. As you know, being a leader today is an enormous undertaking.
Whether you’re in business, education, medicine, or any other field, as a leader you guide others through complex systems to accomplish complex and important goals.  That’s a big job.
More than ever, this highly specialized position requires both emotional and intellectual intelligence.  Leaders today need to be part visionary, strategist as well as relationship expert while producing organizational strength.

That’s a Tall order. How’s it Going?

Are you making the difference you want to see?

Lights-On Leadership can help you.  Lights-On Leadership brings extraordinary tools to the leadership table that mobilize you to make the greatest impact for everyone you serve.

What is great leadership?

I see Leadership as service.  Service to others, service to community, service to your highest aspirations and callings. It is a courageous act to be a leader – courageous in that it takes gumption, and boldness as well as humility, vulnerability and imagination.

A survey through entrepreneurial articles from Forbes to Fast Company to the Wall Street Journal, name the top characteristics of great leadership as: Accountable, Approachable, Aware, Collaborative, Committed, Compassionate, Clear, Communicable, Confident, Courageous – the list continues – all the way from A-Z… how do we access and sustain this?

How does great leadership happen?

Marie M. Daly Ph.D., The first female African-American to earn a PhD in Chemistry said,
Courage is like — it’s a habitus, a habit, a virtue: you get it by courageous acts. It’s like you learn to swim by swimming. You learn courage by couraging.”

Great leadership doesn’t happen by accident.  Great leadership is a highly deliberate approach to both people and processes.  Great Leadership is 100% about creating an intentional environment in which people can thrive. And it takes courage.

In his book, The Happiness Advantage, Harvard Professor Shawn Achor talks about “putting the cart before the horse”, the idea that today, great leaders aim to create a culture of happiness as a precursor to and ensurer of company success. This means creating a culture where the individuals feel safe, valued, seen, and are able to connect their gifts and purpose to the big picture.

These are your choices. Every day.

Col. Chris Hadfield, Astronaut and first Canadian to walk in Space, says,

“Ultimately, leadership is not about glorious crowning acts. It’s about keeping your team focused on a goal and motivated to do their best to achieve it, especially when the stakes are high and the consequences really matter. It is about laying the groundwork for others’ success, and then standing back and letting them shine”.

When the consequences matter.

How do you lead under pressure?  Everyday as a leader you are juggling both pressures to perform and opportunities to advance. How do you lead successfully in these tumultuous times? How do you guide your team, stay on target, remain healthy(!), and remember why you’re there – every day?
Especially when the stakes are high and consequences matter for everyone?
Lights-On Leadership teaches concrete tools so you can do this.
